Rob was brought up in London, and after leaving Grammar school worked in the City and the Civil Service. After returning from a career break to travel around Europe, he took a temporary job driving London Buses. This lasted for 7 years!
Eventually Rob bought a shop, and was able to semi-retire aged 45. Since then he has mainly worked part time as a holiday tour manager, and/or coach driver. Rosa was born in Hong Kong, and moved to England in the late 1970’s. She has worked in accountancy, with the homeless and in prisons. They met through playing bridge against each other and formed a partnership at the table. A few years later they got married.
Rob has been playing bridge about 20 years, Rosa about 25 and both compete regularly at national congresses.
They teach beginners at their local club, with the emphasis on enjoying the game.
Rob is a qualified county director, and has run several county events. Rosa is a qualified club director.
They focus their seminars more on card play than bidding.
Rob and Rosa try to be helpful and accommodating. This may be some guest’s first bridge holiday, they want them to enjoy it enough to come back.
Do bridge players have any? If pushed they would say travel and reading. Rosa enjoys crochet and travel.
Rob once won a trophy playing Scrabble at a local Scrabble Club, for the highest scoring word of the year. Fetchers scored 230 as it started and ended on triple word squares. It took him a few attempts to make it 230. Finally he realised the H was on the double letter and he had 50 points extra for using all 7 letters.
