Nigel started playing bridge with his parents, and at school with friends, but then had a long break at university and while starting his teaching career, getting married and raising a young family.
Bridge experience
Nigel’s and his wife Pauline joined Richmondshire Bridge Club in the early 90s and have not looked back since. Nigel eventually took on the role of chairman of a large North East club at the end of that decade, only relinquishing that role this year. In the meantime, he has served as chairman of the North East Bridge Association and trained as a county director as a way of giving back some of my time to the game that has given him so much. With 24 years experience of directing for the North East and 10 years with bridge holidays, Nigel feels that he still has much to offer this game we all love.
Hosting style
Nigel is recognised for his friendly and relaxed approach as he tries to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable session irrespective of their ability and experience.
Other hobbies and interests
Croquet – Nigel has represented the North East of England in a couple of events recently. He is working to reduce his handicap further this year.
A fun fact about Nigel
Nigel is about the only member of his family not to have won their annual family Nomination Whist competition, which is embarrassing since only Pauline and Nigel are serious card players.
